Duration :
90-100 mins

Conducted by :
Felix Nai | Good Riddance & Vanessa Seow | Vansewying

Meet Felix. Ex-aspiring fashion designer, ex-steward, ex-military officer and now, indigo dye practitioner extraordinaire. It's been two years of honing his skills with Watanabe’s, an indigo dye haven in Tokushima Prefecture (Japan), and he doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon. In fact, his next step is to spread the wonders of the dye, and to foster the importance of the environment and sustainability.

Meet Van. A designer by day and maker by night. Founder of Vansewying, Van customises fabric products, and reconstructs defected goods into purposeful products. She aims to use sewing as a tool to connect consumers and creators through the narrative of fabric and creation process.
‘Every printed illustration, pattern, and the tactility of fabrics has a narrative — A tradition, beliefs, protest, a memory, an event, or a dream.’
With a background as a sewing instructor and maker in a textile production studio, Van is excited to share an effective construction of an everyday product, a mask with simple sewing techniques.

Location :
The Refinery Workspace (115 King George's Ave #03-02)

Description :

An indigo dyer and a mask-maker are coming together to bring you an experience of customising your own mask and to give your used mask a new life.

A. Customise a protective reusable face mask – Basic Sewing

  • Choose a fabric of your preference from a range of solid colours and prints.
  • Alter the mask pattern to your size
  • Construct and sew a mask

We will provide an introduction to basic machine sewing and guide you in the process.

B. Bring your used mask and give it a new life – Natural Indigo Dyeing

You may choose to dye an old mask or the mask that you made.

Are your masks experiencing signs of ageing – Make up stains, colour-run or food stains? Don’t get rid of them yet! Bring a used mask to this workshop and give it a second life.
Note that all used masks have to be well laundered before dyeing.
